hi and regards from germany!
as the husband of a filipina since 25 years we travel to the philippines every year. our house is 12km from gumaca quezon province.
my question to those who might have the knowledge:
during the last years i used a netbook there, must be 4 years old now, not top of the line.
i have a smart brodband stick which has never been useful all the time.
but i have a globe tattoo stick which at least worked over the last years. streaming video....forget it.
but i could read my e-mail.
this year, january/february it was a pain in the ***. 20 minutes to enter yahoo. another 20 minutes to login.
then i could see what mail i got but i could not open it. that is no fun.
at the same time my wife told me that she could surf with her iphone5.
what can i do?
Quezon Province is a far place, I'm not sure about the cellphone coverage and quality of cellphone signal in the area.
Since surfing is working on her Iphone 5, i was thinking that your SIM card installed on Globe tatoo stick or smart broadband is very old and outdated not capable of newer technologies such as 4G/LTE. Newer SIM cards today such as installed in Iphones is capable of LTE/4G signals.
On your next vist try to visit globe/smart telecom to replace your SIM card. This might be the solution of your problem:)
Hope it helps.
thanks for your answer.
i buy every year new simcards because if they have no load they expire after 2 month, so this can not be the reason.
in the past i paid 100p for them, now only 40p.
i was told that the signal in gumaca town is a 3, and outside in my area it is only 2.
is there any difference between the micro-simcard my wife uses for iphone5 and the normal size i use for my tattoo stick?
is there a better broadband stick available now?
the netbook i use is a medion akoya E1222(MD98240) with windows 7.
First of all, welcome to pcModz Philippines k.beljau! I have some suggestions that might help you on your tattoo stick.
1. Try to upgrade the firmware of your device and download the latest version of software for your device. Latest firmware/software had some performance improvements and fixed from previous version. You can found the updates here:
2. Be sure you have the correct settings on the device. By default the setting is set to WCDMA preferred. In this kind of settings, the signals switches every time between GPRS, EDGE, 3G and HSDPA signals resulting a unstable signal and slow connection. To correct this adjust the Default Network Setting from "WCDMA Preferred" to "WCDMA Only." When the Network Setting is in "WCDMA Only," the dongle will only shift between 3G and HSDPA signals thus giving you better broadband speeds and signal stability.
Here's the steps on how to do it. Open the GUI is installed in your computer. Go to TOOLS> OPTIONS> NETWORK> NETWORK TYPE. Choose WCDMA Only. and your done.
Let me know if this works on you. By the way I'll move the topic to PC general knowledge section of the forums.
I only drink diluted water.
thank you doki.
i am not so good at the computer so i will not touch anything, but i printed your suggestions and show them in the globe office in manila when i am back in the philippines which will take until december.
hope your suggestions will solve the problem, i will be back here then and let you know.
hi, i am in the philippines now....and it works, i can surf.
what i did: while i was in germany i upgraded my netbook from 1gb to 2gb. more was not available for this type.
when i was in manila i went to the globe office in shangrila mall, they suggested me to buy a 4g mobile wifi which i did,1495p.
then i showed them doki´s suggestions about the settings and told them just to do it this way.
i am in quezon province now, near gumaca and i must say i never had such a fast internet in the philippines before.
and the old tattoo stick....maybe i give it to an enemy ha ha.
